Biography

Barnabas Ticha Muvhuti is a Cape Town based writer and art histori-an with research interests in the marginalised Black modern artists-cum-teachers in Zimbabwe, and the practices of contemporary artists based on the African continent and its diasporic communities. A member of the RIT research project of The Fletcher School at Tufts University (USA), he writes extensively on the integration experienc-es of migrants in southern Africa. He has worked as a Gallery Assis-tant at the AVA Gallery in Cape Town and the Centre for African Stud-ies Gallery (UCT), a Research Assistant and Project Manager at the Centre for Curating the Archive (UCT), and a Research Assistant for the Curatorial Department at the Zeitz MOCAA Museum (helping re-search for the groundbreaking When We See Us exhibition). He has written several exhibition reviews, opinion pieces, and carried out multiple interviews/conversations with artists and curators. He con-tributed to the African Artists: From 1882 to Now and ARTTHROB_: 25 Years of Art Writing in South Africa publications. Currently finalising his doctoral study in Art History at the University Currently Known As Rhodes (UCKAR), Muvhuti is an alumnus of Stellenbosch Universi-ty, the University of Cape Town, and Midlands State University.
