Isaiah Mwangi

Isaiah Mwangi, originally from Juja and currently working in Nairobi, has cultivated a dedicated studio practice that extends from his early passion for drawing, further enriched by his academic background in Computer Technology from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. Mwangi's artistic expression spans various media, through which he creates profound drawings and paintings that delve into societal issues lurking beneath the surface. His work poignantly addresses the emotional, psychological, and physical imprints these issues imprint on individuals and the environment.

One of Mwangi's notable pieces, "Society’s Canvas," takes place within the confines of an interrogation room, where a central light uncovers veiled societal dilemmas such as tribalism, ignorance, bribery, the killing of innocent youths, and illegal arrests. Another significant work, "Unfinished Business," features a partially completed building with exposed beams, contrasting with the illuminated ground floor, hinting at habitation amidst incompletion. Through these compelling visuals, Mwangi invites viewers to reflect on the complex layers of societal dynamics and the often unseen impacts they have on our collective and individual lives.
